Introduction to the SAGMA SHL Miller Apprentice Potential & Ability Assessment
The SAGMA SHL Miller Apprentice Potential & Ability Assessment is a specialised, industry‑aligned evaluation designed to identify individuals with the cognitive capability, technical aptitude, and behavioural readiness required to successfully complete the three‑year Occupational Miller Apprenticeship (NQF 5). This assessment provides employers with a scientifically grounded method for selecting high‑potential candidates who demonstrate the learnability, resilience, numerical reasoning, mechanical understanding, and workplace discipline needed to thrive in demanding milling environments.
Through a combination of SHL psychometric instruments and milling‑specific competency criteria, the assessment establishes a predictive profile of each candidate’s potential, supporting confident selection decisions, improved apprentice success rates, and long‑term talent pipeline development across the South African milling industry.
The assessment not only identifies suitability for academic and workplace learning but also evaluates the candidate’s readiness to manage shift work, digital learning, operational documentation, safety expectations, and mill‑floor performance standards. This ensures that employers invest in apprentices who are likely to progress through all phases of training, pass the Trade Test and EISA, and ultimately become competent Occupational Millers.
The Training Executive (SHL practitioner) will provide structured, documented feedback on each assessment to both the Company and the assessed Student, including clear, actionable guidance on areas for improvement to support effective implementation and continuous development.
Please note: The full assessment cost plus an administrative fee will be charged for each participating candidate.
